Andrés Reyes, a worker at PDVSA Vassa, indicated that since October 2021 production has been paralyzed at this company dedicated to the manufacture of oils and solvents.

He denounced that for approximately two years the employer has not guaranteed them the raw material, nor supplies to put the five PDVSA Vassa plants into operation.

Mr. Reyes indicated that there are approximately 890 workers who are affected by the stoppage of the company. He stated that despite the fact that they are earning a base salary, they will not receive any decreed salary increases until production is reactivated.

“We want to continue working, producing for the State and we want the PDVSA presidency, the Minister and President Maduro to make an appearance and see the potential that this company has. It is unbelievable how much this company has deteriorated (…) We demand the reactivation of the plant in order to have salary improvements,” he said.

For his part, Alexander González, another worker at PDVSA Vassa, assured that since the old Venoco was expropriated by Hugo Chávez in 2010, production has been declining. He explained that the lack of raw material, supplies and maintenance in the plants are some of the reasons.

“The lubricants plant is paralyzed due to lack of raw materials, we don’t know why for two and a half years not a drop of base has arrived to manufacture oils. The chemical plant is paralyzed due to lack of supplies and no further maintenance was performed. The grease plant, having the supplies to manufacture, was only paralyzed by some wires that have not arrived,” Mr. González explained.

Industrias Venoco, before its expropriation, was in charge of the production, distribution and commercialization of petrochemical products and lubricants for motor vehicles.

“After being the number one lubricants company with 100% production, when it was expropriated or nationalized, it has been reducing its production until today it is almost shuttered due to lack of raw materials,” said González.
